About Pit Stop
The Pit Stop Spay Neuter Assistance Program is funded by Friends of Wake County Animal Center Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The $40 cost to the applicant makes spaying and neutering dogs affordable for pit and pit mix dog owners in Wake County, NC.
The goal of the Pit Stop program is to help diminish the amount of unwanted births, thus lowering the euthanasia rate of pit and pit mix dogs at the county shelter. Spaying or neutering also helps to prevent certain canine diseases, making all dogs happier, healthier pets.
The Pit Stop program may change based on needs, funding and availability of clinics. Friends of Wake County Animal Center reserves the right to make changes or cancel this program at any time.
Who is eligible for the program?
Any Wake County household with an unaltered pit bull or pit bull mix, making less than $125,000 is eligible.
At this time, only Pit and Pit mix dogs are eligible since this is the greatest need for focus in Wake County.
An application is required for each dog. The application process includes sending a photo of each dog. Your application is not complete and will not be considered until we receive your dog’s photo. There is a limit of 2 vouchers per household/ owner in a calendar year.
Within 30 days after receipt of both the application and the photo, we will respond via email about your application status. Once you are accepted into the program we will email your voucher(s) and information about how to contact participating clinics to get your dog spayed or neutered.
